What Is This?

‘Sophie is a worn out, exhausted Series Producer for Bear Productions – a leading indie in the UK television scene   She has a reputation for ruthlessness, social climbing, shagging presenters and being a dreadful drunk.  Victoria is beautiful, funny and brimming with confidence as she starts out in her first role in the glamourous world of Television. When the two girls meet, there is a clashing of realities and dreams – and both girls will be forced to make life changing decisions that will effect each other and themselves.’

Okay, I know that description is kinda shit, but I had to write something quickly so I could get the first chapter up and in a context.

I am a TV producer myself, and although this story is utterly fictitious, it’s also based loosely on stories, gossip and the people me & my pals have encountered.  It’s a comedy/drama and reflects my feelings as a young professional woman starting out, the woman I am today, and the mistakes I made along the way.

This is an open publication and I welcome any edit suggestions, feedback and plot ideas.  I have no idea where this is going and look forward to having you along with me!

Well, I want to know what happens next, which is a good sign. I have no idea where it’s going, which is also good. And I didn’t need to re-read many sentences to understand them, which is also good. Some minor grammatical and terminological adjustments needed, but an editor would soon sort that out. I didn’t laugh out loud, or even supress a snicker, but perhaps that’s because I’m an ageing, jaded male, rather than your resumed somewhat younger, female target audience. Hope that’s vaguely helpful and encouraging. Oh, and I like the authentic TV production details. Stick with it! Lolling forward to reading more. Regards Geoff

I like the fact that after mentioning the need for grammatical adjustments, my comments included supress instead of suppress, and Looking forward to reading more became Lolling forward to reading more! Illustrates how important it is carefully to re-read everything you write. Anyway, I just wanted to add that I think a bit of extra descriptive detail would be good: such as what did the outfit Victoria had spent most of her last two hundred quid on consist of, and exactly what music was she listening to on her iPod? Give me more! Fine detail helps the reader to build up a clearer mental image of what kinds of people the protagonists are. G
